Land's End to John O'Groats virtual walk
Hello Everyone!!
Mission Accomplished!
1,200 miles/1,931 kms of Virtual walking challenged in 7 months (January -July). Walking everyday for about 5/6 miles.
Plus, more miles in August as we did extra miles on our way to John O'Groats
started in Glasgow. To make it more challenging we climbed several Wainwrights peaks in Lake District including Skiddaw,
the 6th highest mountain in England with summit of 3,054ft (931m).
We had torrential rain, snow, thunderstorms and some sunshine too! :)

Yorkshire 3-peak Challenge. Nailed it! :)
We are very happy and proud to say that we completed the tough Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge within the 12 hours set!
Weatherwise, it could have been better, but we won against the mud, mist, occassional heavy rain, and slippery rocks! We weren't so lucky with the midges though, who seemed to feast upon our bare arms and necks - ouch!
Thank you to Beth's hubby, Ian, her good friends Karen and Joe Roberts, and Natalie York and
Dev Thambidurai from Lloyds Banking Group, for joining the challenge and raising money for our cause.
A big thank you for all your kind wishes & generosity. So far we have raised £550. This will help us enormously with our next project, thank you!
Wharfedale Catenian Donation
Our chairperson, Beth, was very blessed and priviliged to be at the Big Bash President Farewell Dinner of the Wharefedale Catenians, where she was presented with a cheque for £2,000 from Steve O'Neill, the 2022-2016 Wharfedale circle president.
We have worked with Steve on various projects in our parish community, and when he approached us last year that they intended to have Angels for Children as their charity of the year, we were stunned and thrilled!
On the presentation night, Steve praised Beth for her frequent attendance at the circle fundraising events. Beth responded by thanking the brothers and their families, not simply for the generous donation, but also for their active involvement with our charity during the year.

Soul night, 2016, what a night!
Thank you so much for all the support during our Soul night on Saturday 27th February. The night raised a fantastic £1,077.71 !! Special thanks to Sally's Army Choir and the Soul Surgeons band who once again provided their time free of charge. We all had a great night!

Hair today, gone tomorrow
On Thursday 2nd July, 7 year old Eliza (and her mum) lost their beautiful long hair to raise money for the orphaned and disadvantaged children of the Philippines. The hair was donated to the "Little Princess Trust" to be made into wigs for children suffering from cancer.
Beth's knees were knocking from fear - she's never considered short hair and the thought had her trembling! Now, both are getting used to their new locks!
For little Eliza, it was big sacrifice as she loved her long "Rapunzel" hair and had always refused to get it trimmed. But, in her words "I want(ed) to do it to help the children". Inspirational!
Many thanks to Yazz Number One Hair Studio, Rawdon for facilitating this for free!!

It was evening of spectacular musical entertainment from The Velveteens and students alike.

BUPA Great North Run
After the hard work of training and anticipation that I would not make it to the end, I am very pleased to say that the race day went well! The atmosphere was brilliant and the lovely crowd kept me going!
Suprisingly, I did enjoy myself and it took me a respectable 2hrs 19mins, which I'm quite proud of :)

Leeds 10k Run

Thank you to the Angels For Children runners who participated in the Leeds 10k on July 28th 2014. The team did so well, finishing in 8th place in the team challenge - well done!

Summer Ball 2014
The Summer Ball was held in Craiglands Hotel, in Ilkley on 7th June 2014. It was the first big event that we did and attended by 100 people. We held silent auctions, mostly with Arts & Prints kindly donated by Menston Arts Club and few games that was enjoyed by all. All followed by live entertainment to finish the night by the "Sillie Billies". The night raised over £2,500.Thank you to everyone for all the support.
As it was such a great success, the ball is now a yearly event around 2nd week of June.

Kirklands Community Centre was full to capacity on the evening of Saturday 15 March 2014when about 130 people of all ages, mostly from Menston and Otley, came to enjoy an evening of Soul music, dancing and food.The event was staged to raise money to help rebuild schools in the Philippines which were devastated by typhoon Haiyan last November, and the evening raised over £1,400.
Music was provided by the ‘Soul Surgeons‘ band and Otley’s ‘Sally’s Army‘. “It was a fantastic evening, the band was really great and it was good to see people of all ages in the capacity crowd” said Chairman of the Menston Community Association, Steve Ellams.
This was so popular that many has been asking when is the next one. Hopefully, we can have another event in Kirklands sometime in October 2014.
Cake & Coffee Morning
The lovely ladies from Our Lady & All Saints Church (OLAS) Friday open door cafe held a coffee morning on 4th April 2014. It was such a great community event, enjoyed by many parioshers, in particular the elderly, so lovely to see them having a nice time. The St Joseph's School community and the Toddlers Friday group with their families. Cakes and jams/marmalade were all donations. It was so many that we did the coffee morning again on following Sunday.My heartfelt thanks goes to Margaret Poole whose been a fantastic organiser and her wonderful Friday team, Chris Lewis, Rosie Stokey, Marcella Reavey and to everyone who help and donated cakes and jams on the day. It raised £462, huge success!!
